In order to promote dual education and professional practice, the Agricultural School PK Belgrade, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Mercator-S, for the second year in a row, organized a graduation ceremony for graduates who got jobs in that company. In addition to the Agricultural School PK Belgrade, the Chemical-Technological School Subotica, the High School Grocka, the School of Economics Čačak and the School of Food and Catering Čačak also joined the youth employment project. The number of students who got a job through the dual education program increased from last year’s 9 to 16.
“Students who sign employment contracts immediately after graduation have the privilege of starting a career immediately after school and that is the key to a good start,” said Gabrijela Grujić, Assistant Minister for Dual and Entrepreneurial Education, and added: “Mercator-S is a company that was among the first to join dual education programs, which in addition to theoretical classes include learning through work with the employer and we are extremely glad that this year we have an even larger number of students who found jobs like this, straight from their student’s desks.”
The importance of cooperation between education and economy was especially emphasized by Mirjana Kovačević, director of the Centre for Education of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, who says that that is a safer and easier way of finding a job.
“The dual education system is one of the most important and priority topics of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and we support close cooperation between education and the economy, which is key to reducing unemployment in Serbia,” Mirjana Kovačević pointed out.
The host of the conference, Dragan Filipović, the director of the Agricultural School PK Belgrade, pointed out that he was especially glad that his best students had the opportunity to replace their places in the classrooms with jobs in the company this year as well.
Jelena Jovanović, head of the Recruitment and Selection Service at Mercator-S, welcomed her new colleagues.
“In order for all our stores to function flawlessly, it is important that we constantly strengthen the team of our employees with new, young people who are ready to learn. That is why I am especially glad that these students are here and that I can tell them, as my new colleagues – Welcome to Mercator-S!,” said Jelena Jovanović.
Mercator-S has been implementing cooperation programs with 25 high schools throughout Serbia for years. More than 300 students from these projects, more do internships every year in IDEA, Roda and Mercator stores.
